HitFilm 2023.2 Release notes

Released 27th July 2023. The update introduces a faster launch, improved text tools, color picker, enhanced stability, bug fixes, and better render glitch handling in the export queue.

Summary

This update launches faster than in the past, and features improvements to the color picker, improvements to text and text selections, and a variety of stability improvements. It also focuses on eliminating several render glitches with specific effects, and includes some general bug fixes and improvements to the export queue.

Enhancements

  • The HitFilm installers now show the minimum specifications for the software.
  • HitFilm now launches more quickly.

Fixes

  • Hardware decoding and encoding on Intel Iris Xe Max is now disabled due to driver issues
  • Resolved a launch conflict on Mac systems with large numbers of files and applications.
  • Resolved several crashes involving AMD graphics processors.
  • Rendering issues involving several effects on AMD graphics cards have been resolved.
  • The Denoise effect now works on systems with AMD graphics.
  • Some rendering artefacts in the Parallax effect have been resolved.
  • The Neon Path effect now renders in the correct position when applied to a grade layer.
  • The Text Background now consistently renders behind the text when Geometry effects are applied.
  • The Surface Studio effect no longer renders flickering for instances using multiple textures of different resolutions.
  • The GPU check to confirm the system graphics card is supported is now more robust.
  • The Up Dir Insert behavior effect now renders characters with descenders more accurately.
  • Queued export projects now restore properly to the export panel after upgrading HitFilm.
  • Deleted export tasks no longer reappear unexpectedly when the project is reopened.
  • The Render Queue is now correctly restored when a new project is created.
  • The Upgrade watermark no longer flickers during playback when unlicensed features are in use.
  • The Curves effect no longer alters footage at its default settings.
  • The sidebar no longer has the focus of keystrokes when a project is opened on a Mac system.
  • The preview for the color picker’s pipette tool no longer moves offscreen when you drag to the bottom of the display.
  • The styling of the HitFilm color picker has been improved, so the color box fits better.
  • The color picker now accurately shows the current color of the selection when opened.
  • Double-clicking the first word in a text line now correctly selects the word.
  • Double-clicking at the end of a line of text now correctly selects the line break.
  • Menus in the Text panel now allow you to select a listing by pressing the Enter key.
  • The Sitka font family no longer causes an infinite loop when scrolling through the font list.
  • Triple-clicking a line of text to select the entire line now places the cursor at the end of the selection
  • The OK button in the color picker is now always active, and available to close the dialog.
  • The Previous Frame button is now available any time the playhead is not on frame 0 of the timeline.

RAM: 8 GB (16 GB recommended)

Graphics card: Must have active support from driver vendor
