Motion tracking is the cornerstone of visual effects. It gives your CG and effects something to cling onto and grounds it in the real world. With CamTrackAR, we wanted to bring professional-quality motion tracking into the hands of all creators, and that’s exactly what we did! If you’re just getting started with CamTrackAR, follow along with this comprehensive guide to learn the ropes. You’ll be a pro in no time!
What is CamTrackAR
CamTrackAR is a free iOS app that allows you to record footage and motion tracking data simultaneously. This means that you can import your footage into HitFilm or other NLEs ready for VFX, motion graphics, or 3D objects to be placed in the scene, and they’ll stay in place as the camera moves. Pretty neat, right? Learn more about how it all works in the video below.
Compositing in HitFilm
In the second installment in this CamTrackAR masterclass, we’ll show you how to use CamTrackAR data inside HitFilm. We’ll cover how to import 3D models and anchor them to the scene, how to set up your virtual lighting to match the footage, and how to add your real-life talent into the scene with green screen compositing techniques. Finally, we’ll add the finishing touches to make the CG authentic to the non-CG. You won’t be able to tell the difference!
Using CamTrackAR with Unreal Engine, Blender, and After Effects
We realize that you might also want to use other tools in your workflow like Blender, After Effects, or Unreal Engine. In the third installment in this CamTrackAR masterclass, we’ll show you how to use your CamTrackAR data inside all three of these programs as well as a quick overview on how to get the best results.
