hey there, trying to make an intro with hitfilm
goal is to make the text transparent, with a stock footage underneath...with a white plane over it..? to give this effect
in the first like 5 sec of this vid
In a Composite Shot, create a white plane that fills the entire screen.
If you want the thin box, create a black plane and use the masking tools to draw a rectangle for the outer edge. Duplicate the mask, and use the mask's transform properties to shrink the second mask to about 98%. Set this second mask to "Subtract."
Create Black Text.
Create a second Composite Shot and put your background video in it.
Drag in the first Composite Shot you made as an embedded Composite Shot, then go ahead and hide that layer--you don't need to see it.
Drag the first white plane you created from the Media Pool into this Composite Shot and put it over your video.
Add the "Set Matte" effect to this white plane.
In the Set matte effect, select the embedded Composite Shot with your text. Set the matte type to luminance and the mode to "Replace."

@Triem23 Just post a really informative tutorial on maak, set matte effect and others. I think the set matte is what you need here. This is long but immensely useful info here:
https://youtu.be/9I5VBZwPllM nevermind he beat to it while I was looking it up
@tddavis We must have been typing at the same time. ;-)
I think so
I'm just proud I remembered something from one of your videos to apply it to the situation!
@palacono @triem23 @tddavis Ya the real mvps Thanks
@honeydewthings Ah, no. I cannot be whispered in the same breath with the other two. I'm am barely a semi-noob at this! Glad you got the info you needed though.
Can somebody help me with making this title in Hitfilm instead of After Effects?
I tried something similar (made a plane, made the title, tried to make the title transparent) but it didnt work out, cause when I made the title transparent it just faded away, not 'cutting the text out of the plane' (as I expected).
See this thread: http://hitfilm.com/forum/discussion/43326/transparent-text-intro#latest
What if you want to make that red block 30% transparent?
@Yeremyah then turn down the block's Opacity to 70% in its Transform properties. The Set Matte still punches the hole for text.
What is you created the text block externally with the box RED and the Text set to Black. Then bring it into Hitfilm and DEMULT that sucker to get ride of the black, would not be left with the see through text?
@Andy001z That would work too. And it's faster, easier and more elegant than messing around with Set Matte. Good call!
@Triem23 As there are two threads on this (see the link I posted as a response to avoid this one growing...) is it worth merging them?
.@palacono yes, and done.
@RandomUser2017 you'll notice I just merged your thread with one having the identical question from a couple of days ago.
