Does anyone know if Hitfilm is used in the industry?
Actually yes. A couple of blog entries from FxHome have touched on this.
Hitfilm proper (the actual Hitfilm software) isn't used so much for final production work--Ae has a 20+ year lock on studio level layer-based compositing that won't change anytime soon--but has found a place in previz and anamatic work. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is a good example.
Hitfilm technology, in the form of Ignite is finding use--bringing Hitfilm effects into Ae. While no titles were specifically given its been noted that FxHome has given technical support to studios using Ignite. The Gunfire generator in particular is cropping up more and more since many shows are forgoing the use of dangerous, hearing destroying blanks in favor of adding muzzle flashes in post.
Oh, yes, this little write-up mentions a couple of specific movies.
@Triem23 thanks for the information
