Loosing sound quality after export

Hi there,

First please tell me if I'm not understandable, I'm not a native english speaker ;).

I'm editing a video which is just someone speaking with discreet music in the back. I used a little guitar microphone as a tie-clip microphone, and on the record it was a very good quality, at least it was enough for me (I think it has nothing to do with my problem, but you never know..). Once exported on hitfilm it was perfect as well. As sound work I just payed attention to have no peaks above - 6/7db.

But when I export the final video with the Youtube 1080HD preset, the voice becomes like saturated, I don't know how to describe it really, but anyway it's really not the quality I had when editing !

I tried to edit the preset to increase the audio bitrate, but the result is still bad.

Any idea ? Thanks in advance :).

  • Can you post some before-and-after footage so we can hear the difference for ourselves?  As you say, describing sound differences can be difficult.  Hearing the actual difference might help us pinpoint the problem more quickly and accurately.

  • Also, download and install MediaInfo https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download

Copy and paste here a "Tree" report of a source file and your output file. This gives specific details on the files.

@jsbarrett $5 sez the initial file is a screencap or other low-quality, high-compression file that won't stand up to recompression. ;)

  • @Triem23 Good catch on MediaInfo. I keep forgetting that for situations like this. Then again, I've been up all night editing, so there's lots of fog in the nog right now.

  • I'm going also to post a little part of the exported video and of the original sound file.

  •  Ok guys, I found what the problem was.... it was....  my video player !!

I found it out when I upload a part of the video on Youtube to give you the link and make your hear the problem. It has the good sound quality.
And indeed, when I changed the video player, my problem was gone.

That's a bit ridiculous haha, but at least my problem is solved, and I've lernad a good lesson.

Thanks a lot for your involvement !

  • Glad it was an easy fix. Guess I owe @jsbarrett $5!

  • By the way, if it can help others, the problematic video player was MPC Star.

  • @Triem23 Woohoo!  I'm rich! :D

Glad the problem was solved quickly.
