Recording in game/pc sound

Hey guys
I am trying to record the sound that i hear the pc, example in game sound. On windows 7 its pretty easy, you just go into the sound control-panel and then change the recording  device from microphone to "stereo mix" and then record as normal.
But in windows 8 there is no "stereo mix" or anything like that, so do anyone know any program or technique that work with windows 8?

  • FRAPS will capture in-game sound as well as visuals.
  • Yea, maybe screen video capture is the salutation :)
  • Are you using the onboard sound card or an add on audio interface?
Some audio interfaces have a loop back function that allows you to loop back any of it's outputs to any input.
There is also Virtual Audio Cable. It worked with Win7 but I'm not sure about #8.

I know about this, and i use it on my main pc, (it have win 7) but with my win 8 laptop it wont work, it just dont show up

  • FRAP's is certainly the way to go for the cheap option. Obviously this will mean you have to record the footage too which can take up a lot of space, it's normally best to have "Split movie every 4 Gigabytes" enabled for easier transferring.
I've just tried doing a recording on Windows 8 and it recorded the game audio and the PC audio. You just need to ensure that "Record Win7 Sound" is ticked and "Stereo" mode is selected.
Just to inform, I had to have something that FRAP's can record footage of open, for me I just opened Minecraft up and recorded the title screen, then minimised the window and hit a "test playback" setting, which played some wonderful notes to my headphones which was also recorded.
Hopefully this helps, I'm not entirely confident with sound cards settings and such.
  • Thank you Ben
  • Just google "Stereo mix windows 8" and you should find a download link
I was having the same problem with my windows 8 computer, but a quick google search found me the answer like I said. It adds the stereo mix recording device just like windows 7.
  • I suggest that you use a screen recorder for Win like Joyoshare Screen Recorder. It can record video and audio with high quality simultaneously or independently. Although you have found out the tool to finish recording audio, I leave a comment just for those who still want to record audio or video on Windows.

  • https://screencapture.com/blog/how-to-record-streaming-audio try this out, there are also instructions on how to use it. I hope it'll help you!
