Due to the camera angle being identical, it appears to be a single shot, enabling you to create some interesting visuals. First you need some source footage to work with. There are a few things to remember when shooting for split screen: - Make sure the camera is on a tripod and is firmly locked down. Any movement in the frame will reveal the seam between the separate elements.
- Pay careful attention to where your actors are moving. If they pass behind one another you will have to make use of some extensive masking. Try to keep them in separate areas of the frame if possible.
- Check that your camera is set to manual focus, exposure and white balance. Otherwise you may have trouble with lighting mismatches due to the camera focusing in a different manner for each element of the shot, which will reveal the seam.
