NLE

Acronym for Non-Linear Editing. Describes the technique of editing in a digital realm (with Premiere or Final Cut Pro, for example). Non-linear refers to the fact that the movie can be edited in any order, and altered as the editor requires. This is in stark contrast to linear editing (using film or traditional video-video systems) whereby each shot is laid down sequentially, and changing one shot requires changing every shot that comes afterwards.
