Search Tips

Tips and tricks to help you find the presets you want.

FXhome uses a powerful search engine to help you locate the files you want. The information below will show you how to craft search queries which will return exactly what you are looking for.

Phrase Matching

Normally when you enter a series of words into the search box it will search for each word seperately. Therefore if you search for the words "Basic" and "Clash" it will find presets with names like "Energy Clash Basic" and "Basic Round Clash". If you want to search for an entire phrase instead then you can add quote marks (") round your search terms.

Example - This search will only find presets with the phrase "Basic Clash" in the title

Property Matches

By default the preset search checks the every preset title for your search term and returns the values that match.

It's also possible to search on other preset properties by specifying the property name followed by a colon the followed by the search term.

[property name]:[search term]

Example - This search will only find presets that have a Gold award

The preset properties you can search are
  • name
  • overview
  • desc
  • keywords
  • filename
  • filesize
  • aid - the authors user ID
  • author
  • downloads
  • award - typically "Gold", "Silver" or "Bronze"
  • date - the date the preset was added to the website

Wildcard vs Exact Matches

When you search for a word it will return all presets that have that word somewhere in the title. Sometimes you will want to find a preset by specifing the full title and want to ignore any presets with similar titles. To do this you can use exact matches by just adding a plus sign (+) before the term.

Example - This search will show the preset thats name is exactly "Shotgun", but not presets like "Large Shotgun" or "My Shotgun muzzle flash"

Negative Matches

You can invert any search terms by adding an exclaimation mark (!) before them.

Example - This search will not show any presets that have the letter "a" in their title

Example - This search will show all presets apart from the ones with a gold award

"Less Than" and "Greater Than" Matches

For number and date properties you can instruct the search to only show presets that are lesser or greater in value than your search term. You do this by adding a less than symbol (<) or greater than symbol (>) before your term. You can also add an equals symbol (=) afterwards to indicate "less than or equal" and "greater than or equal".

Example - This search will only show presets that have been added in the last week

Example - This search will only show presets that have been downloaded 100 times or less

Selection Matches

Selection matches allow you to specify a list of terms and the search will return presets that match any of them. Simply add a question mark symbol at the start and seperate your terms with with pipe symbols (|).

Example - This search will only show presets that have been made by the FXhome team

Advanced Search Examples

Putting together the techniques described above you can create some more advanced searches.

Example - Show recent gold or silver presets with more than 10 downloads

Example - Find presets by Cogz that are larger than 2KB and don't have the words "Blue" or "White" in the title
