FXblog: September update

Posted by Tarn on Friday 18th Sep 2009 at 02:13PM

It's Friday, VisionLab is busy rendering and I need something to do while I wait. Which means it's time for a quick news update!

A whole load of new films went up in the cinema today. We particularly enjoyed Jedi vs Sith Part 2, continuing Angry Chair's epic stop motion adventure. There's some great animation and funny moments in there, so don't miss out.

Here in the office everybody is as busy as ever. The team is now 9-strong, with 8 of us working here at HQ. 8 people, of course, means that we have the perfect number for Left 4 Dead Versus matches. Me and Schwar aren't allowed to play together due to our immense l33tness, but newcomer Rikki is quickly rising to the challenge, while all of us enjoy listening to the panicked squeals that seem to emit from Hendo whenever he plays a computer game.

It might sound like it's all fun and games here, but downtime is few and far between at the moment. We're up to our necks in Christmas preparation, making sure we have some special stuff for you guys, while simultaneously working on our exciting plans for 2010. Even though the team has doubled in size in the last year we're still pushing ourselves to the limits - which is just how we like it.

Most of our projects are still under wraps, but one thing I can talk about is the forthcoming Learn: Sci-Fi Adventure tutorial DVD, which we previewed a little while back. FXhome newcomer Adam Scourfield is currently hard at work on the music while the finishing touches are being applied to the visual effects. Next week I'll be doing a miniature shoot for the spaceship sequence, which is pretty exciting. Here's an early test shot featuring the spaceship model.

We hope everyone has a good weekend!
