Everyone who has watched district 9 and loved it, well I discovered a whole load of short films made by neil blomkamp, which are early drafts of the main film. Still very convincing special fx, a few of the cast from d9 but a lot has changed since his final vision of the scenario.

Alive in Joburg was posted in the District 9 thread we had a few weeks ago.

My favorite part about AiJ is that, all things considered, it's not a super great short. The first lines always bothered me: "...we noticed that they had these really fantastic bio suits, but then(!) the Government noticed that these aliens were moving into new areas..."

It's so abrupt, and it seems so irrelevant. I mean frikking aliens! Who cares about bio suits? Also I think "noticed" is the wrong word here. It would be like saying "When a van came hurtling towards me at 80 km/h I noticed I was in grave danger." I sounds so understated. Is starts abruptly and it ends abruptly. It's more like a glimpse of a longer film than a real short. Still I really like the music and the atmosphere. That is probably what caught peoples attention about this short. And the most interesting thing about it, to me, is how it probably helped get Blomkamp on Peter Jackson's radar for directing Halo, and later D9. So it's a good indication of what it takes to get noticed (hah, that was unintentional at first).
Cameron is king. Hail the chimp.

i did sense a halo feel to it, probably good he didnt actually make a halo film because bungie would probably try to have such a strong influence in taking it over, that it wouldn't work.
