A short film, similar in style to Mr Fox, this time telling the story of Mr Pike, and the unfortunate consequences of his inappropriate desires. I hope you enjoy it, and please let me know what you think.

I liked the style of it. The ending suprised me. It was well made and bizarre but I kept watching. When he slammed the chipmunk against the tree, I was laughing....hard..... 5/5 stars for effort and everthing.

<slight spoiler if you haven't seen this>

Max,

What can I say, you've fast become my favourite film maker on this site. I've really enjoyed your previous works and this one was no exception.

Although I was worried that this would mimic Mr Fox too much and not be as entertaining, I really enjoyed the overall story. The addition of Nosferatu was a nice touch, and I thought the bit with Mr Pike being burnt was incredibly striking, a very memorable moment that actually had me re-watching it a few times.

My one slight constructive criticism would be that the pacing seemed a tad slow in place, and could have done with perhaps being a little tighter.

As with the other films you've submitted, this was incredibly well polished on both technically and visually, and the sound work was top notch.

A rock solid piece of work, I really look forward to your next production.

Brilliant. Not quite as innovative and beautiful as Mr Fox, but still very witty, striking and memorable.

The final Nosferatu clip I'd say went on a little too long - while the Nosferatu reference worked really well, your own footage is so good I thought it was a shame to end with footage from another film.

Hi guys, thanks very much for the comments. No Respite Productions, thanks very much, I'm happy you like my films. The part with Mr Pike burning was quite last minute, but I'm happy with how it came out, quite proud of that part. Tarn, I completely agree about the ending being too long. I made this for my degree show, I just finished art school and I showed this and Mr Fox at my show. I was going mad with the stress of trying to get it finished, and I forgot how long the end clip actually was. I could shorten it I suppose, but I think it's better to leave each film as it is and move on. I'm fairly happy with this one, I agree that Mr Fox is more interesting, but despite shared similarities I think that both films are quite different. I didn't want to make Mr Fox again, and I had a whole other film I wanted to make involving angler fish headed people, but it was too ambitious, so I went back to taxidermy and then just made it up as I went. Thanks for the comments, might be a while until the next film, I'm trying to get some funding.
Thanks for watching,
Max

Visually, and as a test of style, this was incredible. Narratively, however, even though it's supposed to feel esoteric and random like its predecessor; I feel that it wasn't as..........cohesive, I suppose.

The ending is just kind of there, and there's no funny end element like clapping and fencing as there was in Mr. Fox. Great stuff, still, and there's an excellent visual quality to it.

Watching it I was going in for a 4/5, but the lack of ending kind of pushed me down a bit. Don't think I don't like it, though, it's excellent stuff - just kind of altogether pointless. Which may, indeed, be your intention!

Hi, Ben, I understand your points, I think that it feels less cohesive precisely because it is more cohesive than Mr Fox. There is a much more straightforward plot and narrative, which perhaps doesn't sit that well with the style and character of the film. I mean, the plot is that he's hungry, gets a bad idea, murders, and then go's to hell. Whereas in Mr Fox, the story is more ambiguous and there is a lot more going on. As for the ending, I originally had it end without Mr Pike burning, so the clip from Nosferatu was suggestive of his demise, then I added him burning and kept the Nosferatu ending too. Probably I should have just gone with one or the other. As for it being pointless, thats a criticism that could be levelled at any film ever made, it doesn't really mean very much. But overall, I had wanted to move on from the taxidermy Mr's after Mr Fox, but, due to time and various other limitations, I did it again, and this time I do feel like it doesn't work so well with the structure and narrative that I gave it. Having said that,I think that on the whole this one is technically better than Mr Fox, but it doesn't have the same level of ideas behind it, I made it up as I went, and as a result visually it works, but narratively it's much more superficial. So, thanks for watching, glad you liked it, there will be no more taxidermy Mr's for the foreseeable future

I'm right there with Tarn on his points- not as clever or sharp or successfully random as Mr. Fox, but still equally-solid and very hilarious nonetheless.

You are a very talented film maker. You have your own distinctive style, and while the use of Nosferatu is creative & interesting in the earlier part of the film - using such a long clip at the end detracts from your own work.

Thanks guys, I agree totally with the Nosferatu comments, it does go on far, far too long. Perhaps I will edit it.

Burning Sage, can I get a comment on the 1 star rating? A reason why? I'd like to know what prompted you to rate it so low.

It's mostly the lowest ratings that go without a comment max.

I really liked this. It started a bit slow, but once the "story" set in, it completely grabbed my attention, but it did lose it again slightly towards the end - I agree that the nosferatu clip went on for too long.

Nothing that hasn't been said already. Not as good as Mr Fox for me, but cool nonetheless!

I liked this, however not as much as Mr. Fox. But I suppose that's because Mr Fox was more creepy and eye catching in terms of style, whereas Mr Pike was near enough the same but more in your face and haunting. Have to say the bit where the wolf/fox thing starts attacking the pike it's pretty scary

Good work!

I really, really like this film. The quick zooms and sound effects gave it a kinda nostalgic feel, like an old Kung Fu movie or Dr. Who show. Maybe for your next one you could include a commercial: Mr. Pike Head!

Like B3N said, It's not as good as Mr. Fox, but I still liked it. I thought the editing was really good and the sound effects where too. I like Mr. Fox more because I think it was more random. This had too much of a story (I never thought I would say that).
