Broadcast Video Expo / The Production Show is at Earl's Court in Feb 2010. You need to register beforehand, but entry is free. You won't find many freebies (unless you count brochures!) but you can always find a few deals on cheap tapes or secondhand bits and bobs tucked away. You won't want to go for all 3 days unless you're insane or obsessive, but it's always a great chance to see what's going on and coming up in our industry. And perhaps we can have a little meetup there too, if anyone else is going.

You mean in the industry. Anyway, neat.

In honesty, I did mean our industry, there are lots of industries out there, and we're in the film/tv/production one If you go to Earl's Court a week earlier or later you'd probably have plumbing and valves, or fuel refining or something! Are you coming along? Beers are expensive, but it's a good place to catch up with buddies from other companies as well as try out the new toys (top-end broadcast HD cameras, etc)

heh, the industry was a play on words that wasn't appreciated. I'd need to go one of those expos sometime, but going across the pond wouldn't fit into Christmas break. Tell me if you notice some near Washington D.C. or something..

Heh heh - February doesn't really fit into a Christmas break either

Sorry I totally missed the pun/wordplay (actually I'm still not sure I get it, maybe it's a different context than I'm used to using over here?!)

It's worth heading to major trade fairs, it keeps you in touch with the direction of the *business*

It's very possible I'll be there this year. I was going to go previously but couldn't make it due to work.

In fact it would be good to meet in the evening if peeps can't make the expo, perhaps go for beers or something to eat. Always love going to Chinatown.

I normally end up going to this on one of the days to check out the latest bits and bobs and swing the polecam around whilst trying to avoid various stands and people!

Maybe see a few of you there!

I went to the IBC in Amsterdam this year. Quite impressive. If you have the chance to go to one of these conventions, then go! Especially because it's free.

Rightyho - I'll be stopping over the night of the 15th Feb at the Ibis over the road (I usually stop there, it's cheap, clean, comfy) as the nights of the 16th, 17th, 18th cost about twice the night of the 15th. So I'm off to the show on the 16th

If anyone else is going to the show, if you can make the 16th, PM me and I'll give you my mobile number (although IIRC reception can be a bit hit and miss in there). Arktic, get yourself booked down as tea boy/missing-in-action for the 16th
