Sorry to be a pain - I have a feeling this question may have been asked several thousand times before.
Is there a basic instruction manual in text form that I can download(and print out)?

I'd just like to be able to read something in my own time rather than being stuck at the computer screen.

I've seen some of the video tutorials... great for learning basic French and remaking Star Wars but there's loads of really basic info missing.

A basic instruction manual in a text format is an absolute must.

For some reason I can only access the manual through the program (which is kind of annoying).

Call me old fashioned, I'm just a 'printed booklet included with the software' kind of guy.

I'm not sure what platform you are on, but on my Mac, I can access the manual by right-clicking the EffectsLab icon and selecting "Show package contents." Then navigate to the help folder, and open index.html and you can open the manual outside the application. There's got to be a similar option for Windows.

By the way, what basic info in particular did you find to be missing from the video tutorials? It would be great to know so that any missing bits could be included when the tutorials get updated at some point.

I'm a fan of printed manuals myself, but its also worth noting that software manuals are far cheaper to produce and distribute, which translates directly to FXhome being able to keep the software affordable.

Axeman - I think I messed up the installation by only selecting 'the desktop icon' which prevents me from accessing the Manual from the program files list.

I had some initial concerns about which files (avi, mov) were better to work with but I now think my PC just isn't good enough for the software.

Oh well, you live and learn.

Ah, well, if you did in fact make an error duing installation, its fairly simple and quick to perform a clean re-install. The instructions are here:

Does your computer meet the system requirements on the product page?

Either .avi or .mov files will work just fine, in general. It may be that you just need to adjust something to get the software working. Unless it doesn't meet the system requirements, let us know where you are having problems and we'll see if we can sort you out.
