HFE 4.0 keeps crashing

This is now very frustrating. All I try to do is import a clip, then move it on the timeline and then the program crashes.

I find it hard to fathom wanting to buy any packages for this program since it has difficulty with simple tasks.


  • Since I have written this post (5 minutes ago?) the program has crashed 3 times

  • What are your system specs? Do they meet the minimum requirements?

    • Windows PC - 64-bit version of Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10
    • Apple Mac - OS X 10.10 Yosemite, OS X 10.11 El Capitan or macOS 10.12 Sierra
    • Internet connection required for online activation and web services
    • Intel Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 or AMD equivalent
    • 4 GB RAM (8 GB or more recommended)
    • Graphics processor with at least 512 MB video memory.
      2GB or more recommended for 4K UHD.
      Earliest graphics cards HitFilm supports:
      • NVIDIA GeForce 9 Series (2008)
      • AMD Radeon HD 5000 Series (2009)
      • Intel HD Graphics 4000 (GT2) (2012)

    Beyond that HitFilm 4 Express is an old version that's no longer supported. The current version is HitFilm Express 2017

  • my system meets all the minimums. its a 2015 retna macbook pro 15"

    this program frustrates the hell out of me.

    its crashing once a minute now and my timeline only has 2mins of content.

    I fear upgrading will make it worse but I will try.

    Which MacBook Pro? Unless you got the very top end version with the discrete GPU, you're basically at minimum specs for Hitfilm... 

  • If you have a Macbook Pro mid2015 with the Intel Core i7 2.5Ghz processor, your integrated GPU has only 512MB of VRAM, so the bare minimum.

    If you happend to have the 2.2Ghz version,  you are under specs
