Just wondering, if one buys a copy of HF4P now, will he/she be eligible to a free upgrade to HF5P when it's released?
Last year if you bought Hitfilm 3 30 days before Hitfilm 4 came out, your were eligible for a free upgrade. I would imagine it will be the same this year. But only staff members can answer this for certain.
Moderator, not Staff, but my guess is that FxHome will do the same thing this year--quietly upgrade anyone buying HF4P within 30 days of launch.
However, I doubt a launch date will be advertised beforehand. FxHome seems to prefer the media push on launch day, not prerelease hype.
Have to say, and please I am not a fan boy of the subscribtion based model that some other companies are using (you know who you are mr big A) but if wanting the latest and greatest is a must (and yes I know it's frustrating to have a new version come out two or three months after you have shelled out) then this model would fit. Why not do both. Have a subscribtion model for those who want to stay up with the releases and a one off cost for the release version which will meet the needs of the indervidual who prefer a one hit cost.
@Andy001z basically the main change to make the subscription model workable is simply change how you treat end-of subscription. One way is to lock you out of the apartment you rented... The other way is simply to stop sending out the next version. Upgrades end when your subscription does...
If the subscription happens to be the same as an upgrade cost, so be it.
@Triem23 well sounds like the stop sending you the next version is a workable model if you had a clause in the subscribtion terms that if you terminate your contract within X period and wish to continue using our services then a charge will be appliable.
The only issue with that is a subscription ending upgrades is, functionally, identical to just buying an upgrade. I suppose things might be a bit easier since a subscription gives FxHome a "go ahead and take my money for HF 6" list....
But at least with that model, you are more in control if you want to upgrade or not, it might be modeled in so that subscribtion users get a discount for their continued support. It would mean Hitfilm gets a good idea of revenue stream. I don't know, I'm not a saleman / product specialist.
Thanks for the upgrade/subscription discussion, it's appreciated. Personally, I'm more inclined towards the upgrade model, but the subscription model has its merits as well, each to his/her own, afterall.
And now... I'd appreciate further if someone can answer the original question, but anyway ; )
