How to Apply effects to 3D Layers Without Affecting Everything Else

So for example, I want to out some effects on a particle system I have that is over my video footage, but if I use a gradient layer it applies to everything and effects cannot be directly applied to a 3D layer.

  • Right-click the 3D effect, and select "Make composite shot" from the menu. This will convert the #D effect to a 2D composite shot in your current composite, and open a new composite shot containing only the effect. Switch back to your original composite, with the footage below the effect, and you can now add color filters to the composite containing the 3D effect. If you need to later edit the controls of the 3D effect, you can do so in the new composite shot which contains it.
