The Combat Drone is a new 30 minute feature from C.Y.C.O Productions due for release in Summer 2008. This video is a special effects test demo showing The Drone flying through the forest firing lasers at it's victim while huge explosions erupt around him. The Special Effects were created using Blender, Models from Sci-fi 3d and Effects Lab Pro. If any Movie Makers out there have any comments on how to improve or enhance these effects please let me know.
The story begins in the aftermath of a bloody global war. The Earth has been turned into a wasteland. We focus on a small band of survivors who have taken refuge in an old dilapidated house. Food and Medical supplies are quickly running low. They desperatly need more. So it's up to one of the survivors to go and get the much needed food and medicine. The only problem is that all the storage areas keeping these items are gaurded by Combat Drones, ( relics from the war and once used to stop looters and raiders) How will they cope, what will happen...you'll just have to wait an see!!!

Thanks for the help guys. The Comat Drone idea came to me while I was helping some other film maker friends shoot part of there movie Shadowman. I grabbed one of the actors and told him to run through the forest and then jump to the side as if there was a huge explosion. I was just going to use the shot as an experiment in Effectslab Pro. When I finished the shot of the explosion I thought it looked kinda weird that there was nothing causing it, so I decided to put the drone in firing lasers and have more explosions . I could have spent more time in doing the FX but I wanted to get the shot on the internet for my film maker freinds to see and to tell them about the idea. We have now got a first draft screenplay for The Combat Drone and shooting will start as soon as I finish my other movie Dead Money. A trailer will be up as soon as I have enough good footage to make one. If any other film makers out there know anything about animating in Blender or how to enhance the effects I will be pleased to hear from you. NEXT: Brain Snatchers From Outer Space. Coming Soon!

not bad at all. i did notice that you must have had your camera placed in an area of sunlight when you shot the background plate. The middle of the plate has a washed out almost fog like effect to it caused by shooting into the sun and having the camera in bright sunlight. You need to make sure the camera is in a area of shadow to prevent this happening if you're gonna shoot into the sun as you have here.

Nice. Maybe my eyes are bad, but the shadow on the drone looks like a circle when it should be an oval shape for depth.
